LIVE from Beadalon-Wire Wrapped Cabochon Pendants with Wyatt White

Yesterday on the live show, I had Wyatt White from Beadalon show the basics of making wire wrapped cabochon pendants.  He actually shows how to make the wrapped crystal on the right using a Swarovski faceted flat back.

According to Wyatt, you can set lots of things with this technique.  He’s a wizard and if you’re curious about wire wrapping and setting cabs, definitely watch this video.  He has designed special banding pliers from Beadalon that make the wrapping process really easy.  So many comments were expressing excitement about these pliers.  We like easy around here so thanks Wyatt!Beadalon Wire Wrapping Giveaway

ACTIVA Products sampler Giveaway!

This post brought to you by ACTIVA Products!ACTIVA Newsletter headerDid I ever tell you I was an art education major at Purdue?  I was.  From time to time, I post projects that reflect that part of my history and love:  teaching kids to make things with their hands!  That’s how I got to know ACTIVA Products.  They make all sorts of amazing air dry clays and super colorful sand.  These days, I design projects for them like this Message in a Bottle.Message in a bottle party invitation idea from Candie CooperHere’s a link to the project in case you want to make a couple. Pottery in Mexico Lesson PlanAnd then this is the kinda thing I design for ACTIVA and teach at my art camps that I teach in the summer here in town at the Honeywell Center.  The kids love making pottery pieces.  No, they can’t eat out of them, but they can put other goodies inside.  For this project, we learned about terra cotta clay and looked at pottery from Mexico for inspiration.  The best thing about Hearty clay is that the clay sticks to itself really well and doesn’t fall apart once the clay is dry.  Nothing is more discouraging to a kid then when they put a lot of time and effort into something and it crumbles.  Want to make your own bowl?  Here’s a link to the tutorial.

The Crafter's Book of Clever Ideas by Andrea and Cliff CurrieAs we head into fall, back to school etc… I wanted to share with you a sweet book that I think is super great for tween crafters.  It’s called the Crafter’s Book of Clever Ideas by Andrea and Cliff Currie.  I know the Currie’s and they are genuinely fun folks!  Their personality and wit really comes through in their projects and book.
The Crafter's Book of Clever IdeasOne of my favorite things about this book is the layout and feel of the pages.  It’s trendy and colorful.  Look at the doodles around the project previews!
Bulletin Board Idea from The Crafter's Book of Clever IdeasProjects rotate between his and hers.  I really like this mini taxidermy project by Cliff Currie, especially for young guy makers.  I’m in Indiana and I know a lot of boys that would think it’s cool to make miniature taxidermy heads (including my husband, the hunter).
Mosaic Idea from The Crafter's Book of Clever IdeasThere are tried and true techniques with new and funky spins.  I appreciate this too for young crafters.   You’ll find some projects you want to make alongside your teen.  Make it together!  Hip hip hooray!
