a little bit about me...
Hi, I'm Candie. I've never met a craft material I didn't like. I was
born in small town Indiana in one of the craftiest homes I know. My
mom and I were always making stuff. I started making jewelry in about
eighth grade. The first jewelry project I remember really making was for
Earth Day. I glued a leaf to a flat river stone, wire wrapped it and hung
it from some suede lace.
If that doesn't say I was going to be a mixed media jewelry maker, I don't know
what does! After high school, I headed off to Purdue University to major
in Art Education and Fine Arts. I minored in Art History-what's another
couple of credits?!?! It was a great experience and I had wonderful
professors. I emphasized in Jewelry and Metalsmithing. Once out of
school, we started looking for ways to live abroad. In between all that, I
did a few art fairs and shows. Next thing I knew, a year or so later we
were on a plane to China. So now, I live here in Suzhou with my husband,
Butch. I've been in shows nationally and internationally. I
currently work as a project designer for various publications. I am a
regular contributor to Simply Beads magazine and I'm writing a book on Felted
Jewelry for Lark due out in Spring of 2007.
Oh, and as for the two pictures.
The one on the right is of me raw and real. No make-up what so ever!
If Oprah can do it, so can I. I'm wearing a jacket that my dad got for my
mom back in the day (he sent it home to her when they were dating-he was living
in Las Vegas). And I'm also playing
one of my favorite instruments-a light up tambourine! Shake it!
And then there's the after picture on the left. Make-up: the wonder drug.
This is a picture of me on the set of Beads Baubles and Jewels. The make
up lady was so nice. She dolled me up and even cleaned up my eyebrows! My
pal, Katie Hacker put the sparkly necklace on me and I felt like I was
ready for the Miss America Pageant!
